TEAPOT FAIRY HOUSE

Modeled in Maya

Textured in Substance 3D Painter

PROCESS

Before modelling and texturing, I first drew out my ideas. I started with the wooden teapot sketch, then ended up moving on to a teapot house design instead.

My idea was to turn a teapot into a fairy house and make it feel and look as if a lost or abandoned teapot was reconstructed into a house by a fairy who found it. I was aiming for a fantasy style, while also making it feel believable to the viewer.

To further add to this narrative, in Maya, I modeled some mushrooms, moss, stones and a ground base for the teapot to sit on and be surrounded by. These extra add-ons helped emphasize the teapot, while also creating a small environment for it.

For extra charm I also wanted the teapot to be stylized and not hyper realistic. In Maya, I rounded out the teapot edges to remove harsh angles and deformed it with a lattice to give it an asymmetrical look.

To create a warn and weathered look, moss, rust, and dirt textures were added to the teapot in Substance Painter.
