Fur created with XGen Interactive Groom

PROCESS

The main objective for this project was to achieve a short fur texture that has a two-toned color effect when the fur is brushed around. I also aimed to achieve the look and feel of the metallic, shiny-mesh material that is seen on many plushies.

To achieve the fur, I created two different XGen Interactive grooms and combined them on the same geometry. I kept the width scale of the groom at a higher level in order to achieve that clump look to the fur.

For  the two-toned color fur effect, both of the grooms had different colors. One was darker than the other. The root and tip colors of both grooms were also adjusted so that the grooms started off dark towards the root and gradually became darker towards the tips.

The comb tool was used to brush the fur around creating movement and depth to the fur.
